Aviation Instructional Lab Assistant (Part Time)

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: 

The Instructional Lab Assistant will assist faculty with teaching students in the lab environment. This position will leverage their professional level technical knowledge and expertise to assist faculty with answering student questions, demonstrating skills, and working through hands-on projects and activities.

The typical schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday with flexibility from 8 am to 3 pm.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist instructors with lab-based instruction, projects, and hands-on activities
  • Demonstrate proper use of aviation tools, equipment, and procedures to support student learning
  • Provide technical guidance to students, answering questions related to aviation maintenance tasks
  • Monitor student activities during lab work to ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices
  • Read and interpret project instructions to assist in the successful implementation of lab exercises
  • Follow direction from instructional staff to support course objectives and curriculum delivery

  • Work closely with instructors to ensure consistent instruction and alignment with FAA standards

  • Be available for short-term or long-term assistance on an on-call basis, depending on instructional needs
  • Provide advance notice to AMT faculty/staff about changes to availability to support scheduling needs

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, safety standards, and best practices in aircraft maintenance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a lab/classroom setting
  • Commitment to supporting student success and a safe, inclusive learning environment
  • Possess technical knowledge of aviation maintenance tasks, either through possession of an A&P certificate, training, or experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS,LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: 

  • Prior instructional, training, or mentorship experience
  • Experience working in a Part 147 or FAA-regulated maintenance environment
  • Familiarity with general aviation and/or turbine aircraft systems
